Brett-Lee.net was started and run by a solitary Brett Lee fan - Caite - and it remains this way today.
In the beginning, the site was manageable and didn't require much in terms of system resources. This is no longer the case. After a couple of server moves and explosive growth, Brett-Lee.net finds itself at a crossroads. Although the site now has the approval of Brett Lee and his management team, Brett-Lee.net is still largely a personal undertaking, and is still FULLY funded by Caite herself and is run voluntarily. She is not a millionaire, nor gifted with the power of growing money on trees. Caite is just a fan of Brett Lee, much like the visitors of Brett-Lee.net and cannot continue to go at it alone.
Her choices? Find funding, or close the site down.
The following sections will, hopefully, outline for you the costs associated with operating Brett-Lee.net and will show you how your help is needed. If you decide that you would like to help, your options are at the bottom.
For hosting space alone, Brett-Lee.net costs in excess of AU$400 per year. That might not sound like a huge sum of money but that is what Caite has been donating every year. On top of yearly domain costs, upgrades to hardware and software to keep Brett-Lee.net functioning at optimal performance and myriads of unforseen costs, Caite has spent in excess of AU$2,500 from her own pocket just keeping brett-lee.net online. Starting to sound pricey? It is!
Add on the THOUSANDS of hours of voluntary labour involved in maintaining Brett-Lee.net and we're getting an idea of what it takes to run the site.
The only thing Caite gets in return for all this is a warm, happy feeling knowing that she's keeping thousands of Brett Lee fans happy. This feeling does not feed her, nor pay her increasing monthly bills.
Donating to Brett-Lee.net will also give you the same warm, happy feeling for helping out a site that you love and that is in dire need of financial assistance. It will give you Brett-Lee.net's undying gratitude. It will give you good karma. It will not mean that you get preferential treatment or any otherwise VIP treatment for the time being.
