Notes From India

November 3, 2004

Hello from Mumbai

Beating India in India has been a major goal of the Australian team ever since we came so close last time. It is very rewarding to see all of the hard work that the team has put in throughout the last year pay off to give us our first series win in India for 35 years. But I can tell you this we still have one more game to win as far as we are concerned.

There is no way that the team won’t do everything possible to finish this tour with a win and take the series 3- 0. We know that it is going to be a real challenge to win this next game but it is something that we are focused on.

The style of cricket that we have been playing over here has given the team a lot of confidence for the up coming summer series back home. It has been a long tour (almost 17 weeks) since the start of the Champions Trophy but one that I will not be forgetting in a hurry!

Even though I was on 12th man duties I got out on the field a few times in the last Test as a substitute fielder and really enjoyed myself. I felt really confident out there because of all the work that I have been putting in at training. I would have loved a bowl but I know I will get my chance soon. I got a bit of a knock to the eye from Langer at training the other day but it is fine, I’m all stitched up and I will be fit to play if I am called on.

Thanks again for all the support and I look forward to seeing you throughout the Australian Summer.

Best wishes

Hi Guys

I’ll tell you what it is hot over here! It makes it really tough for the guys out there in the middle. But we are all used to the playing conditions now and I think this has shown in the great quality of cricket that has been played throughout the series. I can also tell you that every one of the boys is loving the challenge of playing India in India and no one is taking this experience for granted.

It was a shame that the last test ended the way it did because we were all confident that we had it in us to take that game out. Since then we have had a good break between Tests and I think it has had a really strong influence on all of us. We are now refreshed and looking to the job ahead. The team is treating these last two Tests as a whole new series. We have put the past two Tests behind us and we are now focusing all our attention on the next Test.

Well the third Test has just gotten underway and we are off to a fairly solid start. I have been working really hard on my fitness throughout this tour and feel as good as I ever have. After seeing the pitch that we are playing on here in Nagpur, my feet are starting to get real itchy. I would love to get out there and let a few rip, but I know it is a long summer and I will make sure I take my chance when it comes.

I will talk to you soon and go the Aussies!!

Best wishes

Hi everyone

Thought that I would drop a quick email to let you know how everything is going in India. Despite not having played in either the first or second Tests I am having a great time, I really enjoy the passion Indians have for the game. They are so friendly and just adore the Australian players.

I am feeling as fit as ever right now. I am really happy with my form and itching to get a start in one of these Tests. But the other boys are bowling really well at the moment and I will have to just keep plugging away at training until it’s my turn.

The team is in a really good frame of mind and we know that we will have to play our best cricket if we are to break the jinx and finally win this elusive Indian series. But we are all confident in our own abilities and in each other; we are sure that we can get the job done and carry on what we started in the first Test.

Thanks for all the support

Best wishes

Brett
