'Arrogant Aussies' label undeserved: Lee

The Australian cricket team does not need to curb its on-field behaviour according to spearhead Brett Lee, who also says claims of Aussie arrogance are wide of the mark.

Lee argued the team has only been dubbed as "arrogant" because of its winning ways, and said the Australians aimed to set a positive example to young cricket fans.

"Sometimes if you win a few matches here or there you might be looked upon as being arrogant because you're winning all the time," Lee said.

"You want to make sure you set the right example for the kids coming and watching to the game."

He also defended the Aussies' on-field banter, saying anything short of racial vilification is fair game.

"Providing that you're not racially vilifying someone there's nothing wrong with saying a few quiet words to the batsman, provided it's in the right spirit.

"Because I think it's very important that you don't lose the character of the sport."

The speedster is delighted to finally have the role as Australia's main strike weapon, following the retirement of cricket legends Glenn McGrath and Shane Warne.

"I've been enjoying being the strike bowler for Australia, it's something I've wanted to do for a number of years now," Lee said.

"We've got a great squad of bowlers behind us and everyone's pulling their weight, everyone's doing their job and it's nice to get a few wickets."
