No surgery for Brett Lee

Brett Lee has declared he's on a 50/50 chance of playing in next month's World Cup after consulting leading Sydney orthopedic surgeon Kim Slater this afternoon.

The Australian pace ace was relieved that surgery wasn't required on the left ankle he injured in a freakish training mishap in Wellington, New Zealand on Thursday.

However, Lee faces an anxious week long wait before he will have a clearer picture on his chances of joining the Australian cricket to defend their world champions title in the Carribbean. "The good news is that I don't need an operation, I don't need any screws in the bones which is positive," Lee said.

"At the moment probably all I can say is that I'm 50/50 for the World Cup so fingers crossed.

"I'll have to reassess in about a week. I need doctor Kim Slater to talk to Alex Kountouris over in New Zealand so I'll know a lot more them.
