Lee out to cause pain

Brett Lee says the Australians have vowed to show no mercy to beleaguered rivals New Zealand and England as they plot a rare clean sweep of the one-day series.

Buoyed by a 5-0 Test thumping of England in the Ashes, the world champions have fixed their sights on an unbeaten summer for only the second time in 28 years.

Steve Waugh's team of 2000-01 remains the only Australian team to post a perfect record, demolishing the West Indies 5-0 in the Tests before winning 10 matches in a triangular one-day series including minnows Zimbabwe.

But Lee is confident Ricky Ponting's outfit can enter the record books as it shoots for a fourth consecutive win in the Commonwealth Bank tournament against New Zealand today at the SCG.

"We want to win every single match and do whatever it takes to win the series," Lee said in the wake of Australia's tense four-wicket win over England at the Gabba.

"If it means going through unbeaten that's great, we always go into a series wanting to set the benchmark.

"Our confidence is right up there at the moment.

"Momentum is the key word -- that's the word we've been using all summer.

"Once again, England had their chances (on Friday night), but we just keep finding a way to get out of a tough situation.

"Our confidence is building with each win." With Ponting set to return today after being rested on Friday night, paceman Glenn McGrath said the Aussies were eager to turn the screws on their two fiercest foes.

The Kiwis have a horrendous one-day record against Australia, having lost 17 of their past 19 clashes dating to January 2002.

"New Zealand always seem to lift when they play us, but we've beaten them every time in the last 12 or 13 times we've played," McGrath said.

"They have some talented players, but we'll get out there with the same attitude and if we play well, no team in the world is good enough to get near us.

"We want to keep winning. England has had a tough season, but we don't want to give them any edge -- or any points."

Despite two magnificent catches on Friday night, Brad Hodge, who fell for a third-ball duck, is set to make way for Ponting for the New Zealand match.

The only other change could see Stuart Clark return at the expense of Nathan Bracken or Mitchell Johnson.

Lee, who took 2-53 on Friday night, said he was relishing his first showdown of the summer with New Zealand after being floored by illness.

"It was good to come back -- it took me a week to get over a bad dose of bronchitis," he said.

"But I'm 100 per cent again and it will be good to test myself against a different side."
