Fast bowler Brett Lee walks down the aisle with podiatrist Liz Kemp today in what is being billed as the cricket world's wedding of the year, but don't expect any Bec and Lleyton-sized exclusive media deals for this fair-haired duo any time soon.
Reports last week Lee was shopping around the media rights to his wedding to the weekly magazines for $350,000 are simply not true, says his manager, Neil Maxwell.
"It really annoyed me when I read that. An approach was made by a magazine to Brett's brother, Shane, when he proposed to Liz back in March. When we asked Brett if he was interested, he said 'absolutely no way'. He wants the wedding to be a very private affair and is not interested in doing any of that sort of thing," Maxwell tells PS.
"All I can say is that he is the happiest I have ever seen him and they are going to have a lovely, intimate wedding."
Meanwhile bride-to-be Liz Kemp, took delivery of her wedding dress on Wednesday from boutique Corston Bridal in Edgecliff. On the same day Lee was spotted on Castlereagh Street having his final suit fitting. Last week the pair were caught enjoying a pre-marital fling at the Casuarina Country Inn, where they reportedly slept in the $285-a-night Out of Africa themed suite.
Africa has played a pivotal role in the relationship. Lee proposed to Kemp while on tour in South Africa in March, with Kemp soon flashing a stunning engagement ring which Lee is believed to have had made while on tour using a South African diamond.
Clearly the newlyweds are in no need to cash in on their wedding, with Lee ranked as Australia's No.1 fast bowler. It was recently reported he stood to collect a base contract of about $550,000 this year, which on top of his endorsement deals for products such as Weet-Bix, makes for a nice little earner.
PS also hears Kemp quit the Double Bay podiatry clinic she worked at, gleefully telling her work mates she was "retiring" and would soon get married and "have babies".
However there were no baby items on the David Jones bridal registry this week, with the few remaining items on the list including such mundane utensils as colanders, a pie plate, mixing bowls and a cheese grater.
