Australian fast bowler Brett Lee spent the weekend in hospital being treated for a skin infection on his face.

Lee, who has been struggling to break back into the Australian Test team for the past 16 months, was admitted to hospital on Saturday and was released Monday, his manager Neil Maxwell said.

"It was purely precautionary. He's been treated with antibiotics and he's fine," Maxwell said.

Lee, 28, had recently been on two promotional trips to India and had been on holiday in Western Australia, but had no idea where he picked up the infection.

Maxwell said the infection would not affect his preparation for the Ashes tour to England which starts next month.
