An MRI scan has cleared Brett Lee of significant damage to his injured shoulder and he is a chance to play in this weekend's matches against England and Bangladesh.

The paceman complained of a shooting pain after completing his fourth over in the match against Somerset on Wednesday and immediately left the field. He was sent from Cardiff to London to undergo a scan to determine the extent of the damage but has been cleared of anything serious.

"It is believed that bruising to the front of the shoulder which was the result of being struck by the ball when batting in the Twenty20 match (with England) on Monday, may have caused some restriction to Lee's normal bowling action," a team statement read.

"This change of action has exacerbated a previous minor, shoulder injury Lee sustained four years ago. The prognosis for Lee is good and the condition is expected to settle down quickly. He will be monitored and reviewed tomorrow before the team for Australia's first (Tri-Series) match on Saturday is selected."

Lee was very much a relieved man after receiving the news.

"I am relieved there is no major damage and I am looking forward to playing for Australia in this upcoming series."

Prior to the scan coach John Buchanan said a decision on Lee's availability against Bangladesh in Cardiff on Saturday and England in Bristol on Sunday would not be made until a full diagnosis was known.

"We just want to find out what is going on, but we hope it is just precautionary. We will need to wait and get that information on the scan back first, before we make any firm decisions about the weekend," he told AFP.

Buchanan admitted that two defeats in three days wasn't the ideal way to prepare for the triangular series but he was confident his side could bounce back.

"We are just a bit off the pace at the moment. We are just not right at the top of our game and not playing as we would like - that is obvious," he said. "We would probably like to be a little further on in terms of application of our skills in the limited-overs game - but that is not the case. We look forward to improving over the course of the tournament."
