BRETT Lee consulted fast bowling mentor Dennis Lillee.
He has spoken with captain Ricky Ponting and coach John Buchanan.
His fellow Australian fast bowlers have also worked closely with him.
But, as Allan Border pointed out this week, if Lee was going to come out of his slump, he had to do it himself.
And yesterday that's what he did.
Told to reassess his length, Lee responded to Ponting's show of faith in handing him the new ball and then bringing him back to bowl the 50th over.
He struck immediately on both occasions, dismissing Sourav Ganguly in the second over and Yuvraj Singh in the 50th.
Lee regularly produced the mid-length delivery that his captain wanted and speeds in the high 140km/h range.
His fastest ball for the day was 147.7km/h.
Despite knowing that he faced the axe from the Australian one-day side if he failed yesterday, it was a smiling, more relaxed and animated Lee who turned up to the SCG.
He finished with 2-46 off nine overs, including one no-ball and three wides, and did enough to retain his spot in the squad for the rest of the series.
New South Wales fast bowling coach Geoff Lawson said Lee needed to take a more tactical approach into yesterday's game.
"Lee's job is to bowl fast," Lawson said.
"I thought technically he was looking better in Brisbane, but here he needed to add some strategy."
Lee had Ganguly jumping around with his opening ball, which angled up nastily into his ribs, the type of ball he needs to produce regularly to re-emerge as Australia's chief enforcer.
His 1-0 off three balls was the dream start his confidence needed.
Lee had 1-18 after four overs in what was a vastly improved performance from his first change in Brisbane, where he had 0-30 after three overs.
Lee has spent considerable time in the nets working on hitting the in-between length after conceding 83 runs off his 10 overs in Australia's loss to India on Sunday.
He bowled another four-over spell of line and length, taking his figures to 1-38, with most of the runs conceded pushes and dabs into the gaps.
