KOLKATA: He may not have quite blasted the Indians with his pace yet, but it's time for Brett Lee to kill them softly with his song.
The blonde paceman plans to be in the country some time next year to rock with his band Six & Out for charity. And guess who may just join the tearaway on the concert tour? None other than Rolling Stone icon Mick Jagger.
"These will be charity concerts and we want to raise money for the underprivileged children in India," said Lee.
But has the Jagger bit been finalised? "Not yet. We're working on it," Lee said. When asked why Jagger, Lee said, "He is a great cricket follower and he has done shows in India as well. I will give him the proposal and see how things work out," Lee said.
Jagger performed with the Rolling Stones in India last year. What made him think about such a programme in India?
"Music is my passion, and what better place to do shows than India," he said, as he gave away autographs to the delight of fans who had gathered around him.
Lee, though, is not the first cricketer with a passion for music. Former India batsman Sanjay Manjrekar brought out a solo album a few years back, while other teammates have lent their voice on the odd occasion. But, then, Lee is on a performing band, and that's certainly not very common.
Former world No 1 tennis player Mats Wilander was a guitarist himself and had his own band.
Elaborating on his band, Lee said, "It's a five-piece band with me as the bass guitarist. I also help out as a back vocal."
