Brett Lee’s manager says the Australian fast bowler’s ankle operation went according to plan.

The 27-year-old went under the knife for the second time in five months on Tuesday, having been forced home from Australia’s current tour of Sri Lanka by the ankle problems he has battled for several years.

And his manager Neil Maxwell told The Daily Telegraph Lee is happy with the way the operation went, with surgeons discovering exactly what had been causing his problems.

"He's delighted they found the problem," Maxwell said. "It went really well, they took out a piece of bone about the size of a cashew nut. They (doctors) said they didn't know how he had been performing on that basis."

Lee will miss Australia’s tour of Zimbabwe in May, as well as the return clash with Sri Lanka in the Top End in July, and is no certainty to be back in time for September’s ICC Champions Trophy in England.
