Fast bowler Brett Lee will undergo ankle surgery for the second time in five months, Cricket Australia confirmed on Saturday.
Lee, who was sent home from Sri Lanka after injuring his left ankle in a tour match before the first Test, will go under the knife on Tuesday.
Lee said: "After the operation, I will do everything I can to play for Australia as soon as I can."
Australia wrapped up the Test series with a 27-run win in the second Test.
Lee, 27, missed much of the Australian summer after undergoing ankle surgery last October to treat bone spurs.
He performed fairly in the one-day series at the start of the Sri Lanka tour, but was sidelined again before the Test series got under way.
He added: "Obviously I have been bowling with some discomfort for a little while now, and despite receiving plenty of treatment on the ankle, it was still causing me some trouble."
