Sydney: Brett Lee returned to the Australian cricket squad for the first time in five months.

The express fast bowler was chosen in a 14-man Australian squad for One-day tournaments in the Netherlands and England starting later this month.

Lee was declared fit by Cricket Australia (CA) medical staff following ankle surgery after an early return from the tour to Sri Lanka last March.

Australia will play a warm-up series in the Netherlands featuring India and Pakistan beginning on August 21 before the ICC Champions Trophy in England starting on September 13.

"I have been working really hard since the setback in Sri Lanka. After the initial disappointment of that injury, I focused all my energies into getting back for the ICC Champions Trophy," Lee said of his return to international cricket.

"The whole break has given me a chance to reflect on the past five years and assess where my career is at.

"The ankle feels fine, my body feels fresh and I just can't wait to pull on an Australian uniform again."

Leg-spinner Shane Warne, who had indicated he may revisit a decision to quit the One-day game following a one-year ban for a positive drugs test last year, stayed with that choice and was not considered by selectors for the tour.

Adam Gilchrist will not take part in the warm-up Dutch tournament because of the impending birth of his second child and will link up with the squad in England in early September.

New South Wales 'keeper Brad Haddin will take Gilchrist's spot for the first leg of the tour.

All-rounder Andrew Symonds was included after returning from English County side Kent late last month to undergo treatment on an Achilles tendon injury.
