The spate of attacks on Indians living in Melbourne has saddened Australian pacer Brett Lee, who says people from India would always be welcome Down Under in spite of the recent happenings.

“I just want to make it very clear to the Indian public that we as Australians love India the country but also love the Indian students and Indian people in general coming out to Australia and to let them know that they are so welcome,” Lee said.

Brett Lee is reluctant to commit on his availability for the IPL as he wants to make sure he recovers completely from the elbow injury to his bowling hand, which he sustained during the ODI series in India last November. "I am not going to be making any statement if I will be ready or not," Lee told Cricinfo from Sydney. Lee underwent surgery on December 2 last year and was advised to wear a shoulder brace for a minimum of six weeks.

Fearsome Australian batsman Matthew Hayden has faced an unlikely bowler: Prince William.

William pitched a ball to the former international famed for his explosive batting when the pair met on a village cricket green in Australia.

In a moment that Ashes fans would have savoured, the Prince took a yellow tennis ball and bowled to the opening batsman but it was dealt with easily by Hayden.

The 27-year-old Prince, being watched by Australian fast bowler Brett Lee, scolded himself, saying "a weak full toss".

Jan 11, 2010 LEE HOPES TO RETURN FOR WORLD T20
Recuperating paceman Brett Lee is hoping to return to the national team for the World Twenty20 championship in the West Indies in May.

The 33-year-old former Test spearhead says last month's elbow surgery has proved the most painful of his many operations.

"It has been a 16-week injury with ligament damage. There's a couple of bone spurs in there which have been taken out," Lee told Channel Nine on Monday.

Recuperating from the "most painful" surgery of his career, Australia's injury-ravaged pacer Brett Lee says he will take a call on his future in the next 10 to 12 weeks.

The 33-year-old, who is currently nursing an elbow injury, said he remains optimistic about his international career but the final decision will boil down to how his elbow responds to the treatment in the next couple of months.

The injury-plagued speedster, who has played 76 Tests, said he is focusing on his recovery right now and doesn't want to think about what might happen in the next few months.

Injured bowler Brett Lee insists he remains "positive" about his chances of returning to the Australia team in time for the World Twenty20.

The 33-year-old is currently sidelined after undergoing an operation to repair ligament damage to his right elbow.

But Lee, who has not played cricket since turning out for New South Wales in November, is confident he can be back in time for the tournament in May.
