| Mar 01, 2010 | FAREWELL BRETT LEE, A MODERN PURVEYOR OF PACE |
| In a bar in Melbourne in December 1998 an old Australian Test cricketer was barely able to contain his excitement. Rodney Marsh, director of the Australian academy at the time (he would go on to do the same job for the England and Wales Cricket Board) and a frequent contributor to the Observer's sports pages, was so excited he barely had time to sip his beer. England had just gone one down in the Ashes series, but this was not the reason Marsh was jumping up and down like a kid with a new toy. The explanation came in his column of that week. "Just to cheer you up some more," he wrote. "I've just watched the academy side beat Victoria's second team – and I'm in a state of some exhilaration. Fast bowlers always excite me and I've just witnessed one in action. My boys asked me whether I had seen anyone quicker. 'Just one,' I said. 'Thommo.' The bowler in question is called Brett Lee. Remember that name." Read full story » |

| Feb 26, 2010 | LEE CAUGHT IN INDIAN CROSSFIRE |
| Brett Lee has become a victim of the schism dividing Australian players over the potential boycott of the Indian Premier League as the former Test spearhead is desperate to play in the tournament in a bid to resurrect his international career. Confusion continues to reign over which Australian players will take part in the IPL from March 12 to April 25 following threats from an organisation called the 313 Brigade, an operational arm of the terrorist al-Qa'ida network. Following a long battle with injury, Lee announced his retirement from Test cricket yesterday in a bid to prolong his career but he needs to play in the IPL if he is to break into the Australian team for the Twenty20 World Cup in the West Indies starting in April. | Feb 26, 2010 | WHEN BRETT LEE FELT AT HOME |
| Aussie bowler Brett Lee feels welcome in India, and says that Aussies make Indians try to feel the same way there. He’s so close to India, he says, that you might hear a Hindi song in his album! Australian pace bowler Brett Lee had some great moments during his recent visit to Delhi, and he couldn’t stop gushing about his experience. “Till now, I have enjoyed walking the ramp wearing Indian clothes and singing Hindi songs, but this was the first time, and a rare experience for me, to actually read a news bulletin on Indian TV. I would say it was simply fantastic and, at the same time, challenging, as the script was in Hinglish,” he said. In his typical Aussie ascent, he added, “Mujhe thoda thoda Hindi bolna aata hai. ‘Namaste’ and ‘bahut achha hai’, yeh thoda thoda bol leta hun main. I had to read the script on the teleprompter, and trust me, I didn’t feel nervous at all. The news that I was reading was about Shah Rukh Khan.” Read full story » |

| Brett Lee, Australia's fourth-highest wicket-taker, has retired from Test cricket after admitting his body could no longer handle the demands of the five-day game. Lee has decided to focus on ODIs and Twenty20s as he aims to rejoin Australia's team and collect a second World Cup trophy in 2011. Lee, who took 310 wickets in 76 Tests, said his most special achievement was playing for more than a decade in Australia's top team. His final game in a baggy green was in Melbourne in 2008 and he limped off towards the end of the match with a fractured left foot, which required an operation and another long lay-off.
