Australia fast bowler Brett Lee is contemplating a return in next week's fourth Test against England after missing the first three matches of this Ashes series with a rib injury.

The 32-year-old looked poised to complete a successful return from ankle surgery when he suffered the rib problem during a tour match before the first Test in Cardiff.

Aug 04, 2009 PONTING SAYS LEE IS READY TO BOWL AT FULL PACE
Australian skipper Ricky Ponting says speedster Brett Lee may be bowling at full pace in the next couple of days in a bid for Ashes selection.

Lee (rib muscle injury) faces a desperate race against time to be fit for Friday's fourth Test at Headingley.

Australia remain hopeful rather than optimistic however Ponting believes Lee may soon have built up his pace to full throttle in the practice nets.

Brett Lee has ruled himself out of next week's third Test in Birmingham, reducing the pressure on Mitchell Johnson to retain his place.

The 32-year-old paceman fears that if he rushes back, then breaks down again, he could ruin the team's Ashes campaign and his tour.

If available, Lee could have pressed for the spearhead role held by Johnson, who has been Australia's poorest bowler in the first two Tests.

Jul 19, 2009 LEE CONFIDENT OF PLAYING IN THIRD TEST
Brett Lee and Shane Watson have increased the pressure on Mitchell Johnson and Phillip Hughes by stepping up their recoveries from injury during the Lord's Test, with Lee declaring he is confident of being fit to offer reinforcement for the third Test at Edgbaston.

Lee is recovering from a side strain received during the tour game at Worcester before the first Test and Australia could have done with his pace, leadership and movement as Mitchell Johnson lost his way in the first innings at Lord's. The Australians were reduced to two fit bowlers for much of the morning session on Friday with Nathan Hauritz off the field with a dislocated finger and Peter Siddle so unwell he vomited on the revered ground before retreating to the dressing room.

Jul 16, 2009 LEE RULED OUT OF LORD'S CLASH
Australia paceman Brett Lee has been ruled out of the second Ashes Test at Lord's after failing to recover from a side strain.

Lee missed the first Test draw at Cardiff after suffering the injury during the warm-up game with England Lions at Worcester.

However he remains sidelined after being unable to train in the build-up to the second Test.

Ricky Ponting has spoken of the need to give Brett Lee an occasional kick up the backside to get the best out of his fast bowler, and delivered one such "rocket" during the tour game at Worcester, during which Lee injured a side muscle that is expected to sideline him for first two Ashes Tests.

Through the Worcester game I started feeling a slight pain in my lower abdomen and around the bottom of the ribcage.I pretty much put it down to wear and tear as a fast-bowler and the tougher ask of playing four-day cricket after limited-overs games.
