My friend Radhika and I had always talked about what we would do if we met Brett because we were both absolutely crazy about him. But of course we didn't actually think we would get an opportunity to meet him. Then on the 23rd December 2004 my friend called me saying that she'd found out the Australian Cricket Team's training time and that they would be training the next day. The both of us went absolutely psycho because we were so excited that we might actually be able to meet Brett and that night I couldn’t sleep.
Finally the next day arrived and my friend and I went to the Melbourne Cricket Ground. When we got there, there was quite a large crowd compared to usual, probably about 30 people so we were a bit worried that Brett might ‘skip’ us. But luckily we were the only teenage girls there (definitely an advantage!) Brett was training on the other side of the grounds and so we couldn’t see him and didn’t know that he was there so while searching the grounds for him we managed to get autographs and photos with Ponting, Lehman and Kasper.

Then finally I spotted Brett from afar and my friend and I went crazy trying to use our cameras to zoom as close up to him as possible. He eventually came towards the boundary but we watched while he did a couple of Gatorade shots. But then to our dismay he starting walking away so I screamed out ‘Brett, you rock my world!! Can I please have an autograph?’ and he replied, ‘Just a minute honey, I have to go do this (promotional shots)’ and he looked at me with that killer smile on his face.
When he had finished he walked straight towards Radhika and I and the both of us were getting so excited that we were giggling like little kids and fidgeting all over the place. I got him to sign a magazine with him on the cover and a poster of him. Then we took a couple of photos and since it was too crowded in the stands Brett even let us down onto the grounds a bit. He even put his arms around us for the photo! We felt so special! After that Brett signed autographs for the rest of the crowd but some people didn’t have a pen so he borrowed mine and I stood next to him for quite awhile. When he gave my pen back, I was so excited I linked my arm with him and told him, ‘Brett, you’re the coolest player ever and I don’t care if your 12th man! Thanks for everything today, this is the best early Christmas present ever.’ In which he gave me that amazing smile again and replied, ‘It’s ok and Merry Christmas.’
By that time my friend and I were acting like suck fools and everyone around us was laughing at how crazy we were for Brett. You could even see Brett trying not to laugh! I’ll never forget that day I met Brett; it really was the best Christmas present ever. But most of all I’ll never forget the time he grinned at me and called me ‘honey!!’
