The Best day of my life… (so far)

It was Christmas Day of 2001, the second year of being in love with Brett. I had woken up at about 7am, and started heading over to my auntie’s unit where the present giving would commence before breakfast. I played Santa that year and I started off giving everyone their presents, opening mine at the same time, and as I was giving out the last one I said, “Last, but not least…” you know the rest. I was pretty bummed out cause I didn’t get my jersey with Brett’s name and number on the back. I got a few clothes and the rest however, my auntie then spoke up and told me that there was still one present to go and I said who is it for, and she said, “YOU”.

So here I was opening this present, which was wrapped in blue paper (my fave colour) and everyone was watching me. I opened it up and there was a cricket jersey and miniature bat. I picked up the bat first and it had Brett’s signature on it, I was pretty psyched about it already!!

Phoebe's Jersey

Then I picked up the Jersey, and I held it up with the front facing everyone and I saw the back and all I wanted was Brett’s name and number on it. So then I was like where’s the number and everything. Everyone had this huge smile on their faces and they all told me to turn it around. So here I was turning the jersey around when I saw writing on the front. It said, “To Phoebe Best Wishes Brett Lee.” OMG did I cry or did I cry, seriously.

My Dad told me to move the jersey away from my face otherwise the ink might run, that’s how much I was crying, you know how you cry so much cause you’re happy, yeah well OMG. I asked them how they did it. Well, my uncle works in Brisbane for Suncorp and he knew this guy who also worked at Suncorp in Sydney, who coincidently played cricket with Brett’s manager. So they talked about me saying how much I loved Brett and he said well why don’t we work something out? So my uncle bought my jersey and sent it to Sydney and by that time Brett was playing in Adelaide for the test before Christmas, so Brett’s Manager sent it to Brett in Adelaide and Brett signed the shirt and a mini bat and brought them back in his bag to Sydney where he gave them back to his manager. Brett’s Manager then sent them back to my uncle, which by the way didn’t arrive till 2 days before Christmas, close call.

So that is my story and I have yet to meet the man of my dreams and the one I am still IN LOVE WITH. One of the things I learnt was, it’s not always what you know, it’s WHOM you know!

I have grown to fall for Brett as most of us have. Over the last 5 years he has been the centre of my world and that will never change. I believe everything happens for a reason so when my luck changes, it will be for a reason, and I consider myself lucky to even have gotten what I have and will appreciate it as long as I live. And when the day comes that I get to meet Brett Lee, it will be the best day of my life (other than the day that I marry him LOL).
