Hey guys my name is Danielle Briggs from Australia and I thought I should share my meeting with Brett Lee, as so many of you have done and they are great stories it's so good too see that there is someone out there willing to spend time with fans from all around the world and makes them feel special.
Before I tell you about meeting Brett, I should really tell you who much I appreciate Brett and what he has done for me then you can kind of understand where i'm coming from. Yeah I know that some of you or all of you were nervous but me I was very very nervous and let me tell you drinking the same night don't have a good effect on things either.
Ok so I will start, Brett helped me get back into one of the things that I'm truly good at and that is writing - lyrics, poems and newsletters basically anything to do with sport. (Also helping me was my mentor Rupert McCall Australia's finest poets, who said I was very good). Brett also gave me my inner glow back as I seem to have lost it from when I was around five years old til he showed me that you can do anything if you put your mind to it and to believe in yourself and with that he helped me be myself again and someone that doesn't let people take her for granted and been joked about behind her back. As I was teased about my weight and the way I looked and I know that no-ones perfect, now.
The thing separates me from a lot of people is and I'm not saying that you guys don't think this, that if he found someone to love then I would be happy I wouldn't go round saying things like he should be with me and all that stuff. If he is happy then I give him my best wishes, and I'll be happy as he has changed my life from being the worst thing to nearly perfect, but never perfect as I have lost some trust in people and lost some people they I really care about. There are more reasons but I don't think I will tell you all I think I will just leave that for me and maybe Brett if I ever get the chance to talk to him one on one, at some stage. The one other thing I would like to say is that I support a lot of charities and I'm really glad that there are people who are famous and put their names on charities to get more people to help and I'm glad that one of them is Brett.
The meeting with Brett:
It would have been June 11 this year in Brisbane Australia at a gig that he was playing at with his Brother Grant's band The Gas. (The first one) I was nervous and really excited I had gone over what I could say to him so I wrote him a letter and made him a bracelet both with the quote "B THE BEST U CAN B" - as all I expect of him is the best that he can do, nothing more and nothing less.
Then when they had there first break I went up to him and got his autograph and a picture as well as a hug... then I asked him if he got my letter I gave security to give him and he quoted my quote and I was like ah he knows it I was so happy. At this stage I had consumed a few drinks so I wasn't myself so I might have said things I shouldn't or stupid things but I was happy that I had met my hero and made me feel even more happy with my life.
At the end of the night I had to go as mum was waiting outside so I couldn't get the chance to talk to him after the gig, but before I left I said thank you to Brett and the rest of the band for performing and got one final hug then off to dream land where I ran through the night thinking of what I should of said and not of said.
Really it was a great night and I wished it never ended, but now I have some to respect on honour him more then I ever did. Grant is also a great guy I can see that it runs in the family as Shane is also a great guy.
