1st of Nov. was the happiest day of my life coz' I saw Brett Lee. The day before I had seen an ad in the newspaper that Brett was coming to one the elite shopping malls in Mumbai for the inaugration of the New Balance sports shoe.
I , along with my 5 friends(all of them who r Brett's fans) had already made plans to go and watch the Mumbai Test match starting on the 3rd. But since Brett was coming so close to our locality, I didn't wish to miss the opportunity. Brett was supposed to come there between 2p.m. and 5p.m.So the six of us reached there at 2 p.m. Already the crowd had started gathering. But it was announced that he would be coming only at 3.30 p.m.So we strolled there for sometime instead of waiting for so long. We were disappointed to hear that he would be delayed by another hour. Every minute was passing like an hour to me. By that time about 300 people had gathered and the crowd was getting impatient.I was in the front.
Finally I saw a blonde head walking from a distance and slowly I saw his face too. My heart skipped a beat. The screaming of the crowd deafened my ears. The crowd was so chaotic that I was pushed behind. I was jumping to get a better look at him. I saw his shell-shocked and nervous expression, probably he was nervous of the crowd. He gestured the people to stay calm and even took the mike to say something, but the excited crowd were literally howling like animals and he just smiled. Those in the front were fortunate to get his photo and autograph. I and my friends were the only ones left far behind to his extreme right and were calling out to him. I had a pink piece of paper, in which I had written a poem for and about him. I was waving out to him. I think that caught his eye and he looked at me and gave one of his dazzling smiles. I was thrilled and couldn't believe my luck.I was jumping with joy. Then again he looked at me twice, made an eye-toeye contact, smiled and waved back!
The crowd was getting impossible and so instead of conducting the inaugration, he was led by the security towards the exit from the back. He was going! I dragged my friends along and ran down the steps and reached the basement in time, only to see his car zoom away.
Though I couldn't get his autograph or show my poem to him, I saw him and most importantly, he saw me thrice! I think that was more than enough. This was the most memorable day of my life!
